Overbrook Elementary in Charleston will be closed today because it has no power, according to an automated phone message from Kanawha County schools.
A transformer blew and then caught fire, along with a power pole, at about 3:50 a.m., according to a Kanawha County Metro 911 dispatcher. A reporter said she saw strong winds in the area cause flames to get "pretty large" in the front parking lot of the school before firefighters got to the scene.
American Electric Power arrived at about 5 a.m.
