A free Music and Ministry Extravaganza in celebration of Ferguson Memorial Baptist Church's 98th Anniversary, will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the church, located at 124 Marshall Ave., Dunbar. The Charleston Community Choir will be opening for 2013 BET Sunday Best winner, Tasha Page-Lockhart from Detroit, Michigan. At 7 p.m. on Aug., 20, a Saturday Night Live will be held with Chris Brunson and Anointed from Atlanta, Georgia, along with Spoken Word Artists. The Grand Finale Worship Service will be held at 10:40 a.m. on Aug. 21 with Bishop Frederick Brown of Faith Center Church, Bluefield.

St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, 821 B Street, St. Albans, will celebrate its 149th Church Anniversary and Homecoming on Sunday. Sunday school begins at 9:30 a.m. with the morning worship at 11 a.m. St. Paul Male Chorus will provide music. Speaker will be the Rev. Jeff Woods, pastor of St. James Missionary Baptist Church of Kistler. Dinner will be served at 1 p.m. The anniversary service continues at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Braxton Broady, pastor of Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church of Charleston as guest speaker. Music will be provided by Ebenezer Male Chorus.

The Men's Day Committee of St. Paul A.M.E. Church, 1108 Second Ave., will have a car wash, fish fry and hot dog sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at the church.

Mark McCurties, a practitioner of Christian Science healing, will present a talk titled, "How God's love can change your life and the world" at 3 p.m. today at First Church of Christ, Scientist, 217 Bradford St., East End. The lecture ideas are based on the teachings of Jesus as recorded in the Bible, and as discussed in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy. Twice Blessed ministry of Christ Church United Methodist, 1221 Quarrier St., will have its fall sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Aug. 20. Registration is $7 and consignors keep 70-percent of their sales. The remaining 30-percent is given in its entirety to local children's charities and the church. Consignors are not required to work the sale and volunteers do not have to consign. The sale features gently used, but great quality, fall and winter children's clothing (newborn to junior's sizes), pajamas, Halloween costumes, shoes, maternity wear, toys, bikes, books, baby equipment, children's furniture and more. The Unitarian Universalist Congregation at 520 Kanawha Blvd. has a discussion group that meets for one hour every Sunday at 9:30 a.m. It is an open forum, inviting all to participate. Sam Stetson will discuss voting choices and patterns with the assistance of a DVD he will present. He will also guide participants to pertinent internet links, one of which is trustvote.org.

Teays Valley Church of God will feature a new "GriefShare" weekly support group beginning 6:30 to 8 p.m. Aug. 23 at the church. "GriefShare" is a caring support group for people grieving the loss of someone close. The group is sponsored by those who understand what grief feels like and is designed to offer comfort and encouragement to those who are grieving. Whether you have recently lost a loved one or it is has been several years, "GriefShare" can help. The class is free, however, participants must purchase a workbook for $15. Cross Lanes United Methodist Church is hosting their fifth "Back to School Bash" from 5 to 8 p.m. today. Live music, free ice cream, hotdogs and hamburgers, free backpacks and school supplies, jump house, free health screenings, games and more will be featured.

New Life Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church and the Paul Laurence Dunbar 2nd Avenue Center will host a yard sale from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at the center, 1411 2nd Avenue.

Elizabeth Memorial United Methodist Church's Annual Flea Market will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 20 at 108 Oakwood Road. The Singing Cookes and Cooke Brothers from Kingsport, Tennessee will sing at 7 p.m. Friday at Keith Full Gospel Church. Doors open at 6 p.m. Admission is free, however, a love offering will be taken. A benefit gospel sing will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Aug. 20 at Allens Fork Community Church, Allens Fork Road, Sissonville. Concessions will be available. Singers include Tristan Sigman, Shiloh, Tribe of Judah, Jay Humphreys Trio and Uncommon. Proceeds will benefit the church's food and clothing pantry, along with state flood victims.

Forever Blessed from Gallopolis Ferry will be singing at 6 p.m. Sunday at Dunbar Mountain Mission.

Paid in Full will be guest singers at 7 p.m. Sunday at Popular Fork Independent Church in Teays Valley.

The Annual Gospel Sing featuring The Brighterside Quartet and The Believers will be held at 6 p.m. on Aug. 20 at the Elk River Community Center in Elkview. Admission is free, however, donations will benefit Herbert Hoover High School activities. Concessions will be sold.

A gospel sing will be held t 6:30 p.m. Aug. 20 at The East Nitro United Baptist Church. Featured singers will be The Taylor Brothers, The Lemon Sisters and Carmin Falin.

Multi-Dove and Grammy Award-winning recording artist, David Phelps, will be featured at 7 p.m. Aug. 26 at the Lewis Memorial Baptist Church, located at 5385 West Pea Ridge Road, Huntington. Once a childhood musical prodigy from Tomball, Texas, Phelps earned a bachelor's degree in music from Baylor University. He was a tenor for the multiple Grammy and Dove Award-winning Gaither Vocal Band. He has performed at numerous venues across the globe, including the White House, New York's Carnegie Hall and the Sydney Opera House in Australia. Phelps has 14 solo albums to his credit. Also featured at the event will be vocalist Charlotte Ritchie, as well as Phelps' seven-piece musical entourage. Living Water Worship Centre, 513 Patrick St., West Side, will have a Building Fund Service at 5 p.m. on Sunday at the church. Guest speaker will be Pastor B.J. Roberts, along with the choir and congregation of Kingdom Life Fellowship Church of Nitro.

Pilgrim Home Missionary Baptist Church, 7015 Kanawha St., St. Albans will be celebrating their 7th Annual Women's Day on Aug. 21 during the 11 a.m. morning worship service. The theme is: "What is God's Kind of Woman?" The guest speaker will be Thelma Hughes of Abundant Life Ministries. All women are asked to wear their favorite hat.

Mount Vernon Baptist Church, 2150 Mount Vernon Road, Hurricane, will recognize couples who have been married 50 years or longer at the 11 a.m. worship service on Aug. 21. Among those to be honored are Associate Pastor David White and his wife, Connie, who initiated the ceremony during his pastorate at Oak Hill Baptist Church. The Whites will celebrate their 50th anniversary on Aug. 20. Ron McClung, senior pastor, invites family and friends of the honorees to attend the recognition program.

Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church will feature the Rev. Marvin Geiger as guest speaker at the 11 a.m. Sunday service at the church, 442 McDonald St., South Charleston.
