West Virginia's state bird now is available on U.S. Postal Service Forever stamps.

The northern cardinal is one of four birds featured in the "Songbirds in Snow" series of Forever stamps, according to a news release from the Postal Service.

A set of four, each stamp shows a single bird - the northern cardinal, golden-crowned kinglet, the cedar waxwing and the red-breasted nuthatch - resting on a snow-covered branch. Illustrator Robert Giusti originally painted the designs in acrylic on a canvas board.

"The Postal Service has a long tradition of putting birds on stamps - to celebrate and raise awareness of these amazing creatures," said U.S. Postal Service Vice President of Sales Cliff Rucker in the news release.

The stamps are available in booklets of 20, with the four stamps each repeated five times. The booklets may be purchased at a USPS location, online at usps.com/shop or by calling 800-782-6724.
