The online auction for the former Naval Information Operations Command base at Sugar Grove in Pendleton County has drawn six bidders who have made a total of 30 bids, boosting the purchase price for the 123-acre facility past the $6 million mark.
The auction, hosted by the General Services Administration's real estate wing, initially was scheduled to end Wednesday, but it will continue until at least 12:29 p.m. Saturday - 24 hours after the most recent bid of $6.8 million was posted.
When a 24-hour period passes without a new bid, the bidding will close.
Although the auction opened Feb. 9, no bids took place until July 8 when a $1 million minimum bid was posted. Little activity took place until Wednesday, when bidding started at $1.901 million and rose to $5.561 million by the end of the day.
As of Thursday, the high bid stood at $6.65 million, and a sole bid Friday brought the price to $6.8 million.
After the GSA accepts the highest bid, there will be a 24-hour period during which the bid can be appealed.
