In Around West Virginia: why Donald Trump can't bring coal jobs back to West Virginia, which counties are receiving the most flooding assistance, and more.

n Fortune outlines why, despite what Donald Trump says, coal jobs aren't coming back to West Virginia. The writer noted that the Trump campaign gave West Virginia delegates front seats at the Republican National Convention, and that Sen. Shelley Moore Capito was one of four prime-time speakers. But the magazine calls the Republican presidential candidate's promise to put coal miners back to work in the mines "pure fantasy."

"Even if environmental protections are eased under a Trump presidency, demand for coal, especially West Virginian coal, will continue to decline due purely to market forces," the article reads.

The writer suggests West Virginia turn to natural gas, healthcare, and tourism.

"If he is serious about creating jobs, why not build a ski resort in the state - a huge one," the article says.

n A grand jury will decide whether to indict Aaron Brendon Miles, 31, on a charge of child neglect resulting in death, The Herald-Dispatch reports. Miles' stepson, Jaden, died alone on the bathroom floor. Police said he likely died of a tear and a hole in his intestines caused by physical abuse. He had likely suffered for months preceding his death.

n Kanawha and Greenbrier counties, two of the counties hardest-hit by last month's flooding, are receiving more money from FEMA than other counties, MetroNews reports. In Greenbrier County, residents are receiving $10.9 million for temporary housing and rebuilding and $2.1 million for other needs. FEMA has granted $11.1 million in housing assistance and $1.6 million for other needs to Kanawha County residents.

n Plans are developing to establish a farmers co-op in Pocahontas County, according to The Pocahontas Times. Marlinton lost its supermarket more than a year ago, when the Fas Check closed.
