The West Virginia State Police are investigating reports of break-ins at the sealed Upper Big Branch mine in Raleigh County, a trooper at the Beckley detachment said late Wednesday.
In 2010, the mine - then owned by Massey Energy - was the site of an explosion that killed 29 men. Now owned by Alpha Natural Resources, the mine has been closed since the explosion.
No further information was available late Wednesday.
