The inaugural George Washington High School girls soccer alumni game will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Friends of Coal Fields at Trace Fork in South Charleston.

The year's game will be dedicated to the memory of Carli Sears, a 20-year-old Charleston woman who died in a hit-and-run in Morgantown this past January. She was a former member of the team.

"She made everyone feel important in her own way," said Maddie Wymer, a friend of Sears. "[The game] is in memory of her."

Wymer grew up with Sears, and smiled at her memories of the two playing soccer together.

"Carli always made practices so much fun," said Wymer. "She's still here and still around, in my mind."

Wymer remembers the carpools their parents shared with another teammate and friend, Stephanie Kelly.

All girls and women who played for GW since 2000 have been invited to play in the event. Admission is free and all friends, family and supporters of GW girls soccer are welcome.

Kathleen and James Barber, the event organizers, expect 27 women to come out in support. James Barber said a member of almost every class since 2001 will be in attendance with the exception of two. Several of Sears' former teammates and friends plan to attend.
