CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - West Virginia lawmakers are set to vote on a proposal to require some voters to show ID to vote.
The House scheduled the vote for Friday.
The bill would require presenting a state or federally issued ID featuring a name and photo. Options could range from driver's licenses to valid West Virginia high school IDs.
Voters could also produce Medicare or Social Security cards without photos.
The ID can be up to six months expired on Election Day.
Instead of presenting an ID, a voter could be accompanied to the poll by an adult who has known the voter at least six months.
Accompanying people, who could be poll workers, would sign affidavits and show IDs with their name, address and photo.
The requirements would be effective January 2018.
