CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Bridgeport High School has won the $5,000 first prize in a state-sponsored contest that discusses the dangers of drinking and driving and underage alcohol consumption.
The state Alcohol Beverage Control Administration says in a news release that it received a record 79 essays and videos from 16 high schools for the contest.
Bridgeport students will help develop a 60-second public service announcement that will air statewide during this year's prom and graduation seasons. The school will use the prize money from the NO School Spirits contest for school-sanctioned events or equipment.
Weir High School won $2,500 for second place and Sissonville High School won $1,000 for third place.
The contest was funded with grants from State Farm, the National Alcohol Beverage Control Association and the Governors Highway Safety Program.
