The Winfield community is mourning the loss of one of their elementary students.

Addison Hazlett, a kindergartener at Eastbrook Elementary School, passed away from an unexpected medical emergency over the weekend, according to Putnam County Schools spokeswoman Rudi Raynes.

Eastbrook Elementary Principal Martica Dillon said there was a crisis team available for students at the school Monday.

"Our hearts are broken at Eastbrook today. Addison Hazlett was a happy, fun, loving member of our Eastbrook family," Dillon said in a media release from Putnam County Schools. "Her mom told me yesterday that Addison had her Valentine's Day cards ready to share with her classmates. I think this just proves how much she loved her school, her classmates, and her teachers. Addison had a huge heart and smiling eyes and we were blessed to be a part of her life."

Dillon said there were no plans for a memorial service yet, but the school is collecting donations in memory of Hazlett to help the family.

A GoFundMe page has also been set up for donations at www.gofundme.com/dcnqhazn. Raynes said either method of donation will reach the family.

Raynes also said families at the school are volunteering to take the family meals through a website called www.Take ThemAMeal.com. Stephanie Hackney, organizer of the meal plan, said all of the meals have been filled up. However, families who would like to donate a meal or a restaurant gift card can contact Hackney at shackney.sh33@gmail.com
