The Public Service Commission wants low-income families and elderly West Virginians to know about discounts for home telephone services that are offered through the federal Lifeline program.
As part of the Lifeline Awareness Week, the commission is marketing the telephone discounts that are available to people who fall below 135 percent of the federal poverty line or are eligible for Medicaid, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, the Supplemental Security Income program, the Federal Public Housing Assistance program, the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program or Temporary Assistance to Needy Families program.
Thirty telephone companies in West Virginia currently participate in the Lifeline Program.
For more information, or to find out if you qualify, call your local telephone company or visit the Commission's website at www.psc.state.wv.us/LifeLine.
