HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) - A college professor and students have developed a 3D-printed hand for a child.

WOWK-TV reports Mountwest Community and Technical College Professor Ted Triplett and his team of students created the device for a six-year-old born without a hand. The boy is now able to operate his new hand by using movements in his wrist.

The group began work on the project in the fall semester and it took about a week to print the hand. Triplett says this technology has the potential to do a lot of good for people.

Student Christopher Hunt says developing the hand was difficult considering that everything about it was small and tedious.

The group says they will continue to make improvements to the device in the spring.
