An Oklahoma man jumped to his death from a Raleigh County interstate bridge Saturday, after an hour-long police attempt to talk him out of it, according to a release from the Raleigh County Sheriff's Office.
Burgin Alexander Towe II, 62, of Jenks, Oklahoma, died after jumping from the Glade Creek Bridge in Beaver. The sheriff's office responded to the bridge for a welfare check because the man was reporting preparing to jump. Officials arrived to find Towe threatening to take his life. Traffic was stopped on the bridge while Sheriff Steve Tanner talked with the man for an hour. The man then jumped off the bridge.
"Every effort was made to talk with and help Mr. Towe, but all efforts were met with failure," the release says.
Recovery efforts were made by the Beaver Volunteer Fire Department, Jan-Care Ambulance Service, the National Park Service and the Raleigh County Sheriff's Office.
