CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection is inviting residents to come see its "energy tree."
The agency will host a kick off for the energy tree display at its headquarters on Dec. 3.
Attendees will get to use a hand crank to provide the power to light up a traditional 100-bulb incandescent tree as well as a 35-foot tree that features more than 800 LED lights. It will be draped to the side of the DEP building.
Residents can come see the display every night from 6 to 9 p.m. through Jan. 8.
It's designed to show the benefits of using LED lights, which the department says use 90 percent less electricity than incandescent lights and can last up to 50,000 hours.
