In Around West Virginia today: two WVU stories (an LGBTQ center and the average graduate's salary), school administrators support proposed new academic standards, and more.

n West Virginia University students are more likely to make more money than the national average, according to West Virginia Public Broadcasting. Of schools with data available, WVU, Potomac State College (a division of WVU), WVU Institute of Technology, and Shepherd University graduates were found to be more likely to make more than the national average salary of $36,000.

n A Morgantown woman was charged with DUI causing injury after allegedly hitting a firefighter with her car, the Dominion Post reports. Yasmine Ghantous allegedly dragged the man 20-25 feet, but he is expected to make a full recovery.

n The Fayette County superintendent, Raleigh County superintendent, president of the West Virginia Education Association and an Oak Hill teacher say they support the proposed West Virginia College- and Career-Readiness Standards, according to The Register-Herald. The proposed new standards contain language similar to Common Core.

n A fired Pennsylvania teacher was sentenced to 46 months in federal prison for traveling to Bridgeport to sexually assault who he thought was a 15-year-old girl, The Exponent Telegram reports. Daniel S. McGarvey, 44, of Uniontown, had actually been communicating online with an undercover officer.

n West Virginia University will establish an LGBTQ center on campus, according to The Daily Athenaeum. The center will advocate for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer/questioning community, offer support and programming, and establish coalitions with LGBTQ allies.
