Silent auction

Eastbrook Skilled Nursing Facility will host a silent auction at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, with all proceed benefiting the Alzheimer's Association's upcoming Walk to End Alzheimer's on Oct. 24. The event will take place at the Eastbrook Center, 3819 Chesterfield Ave. in Charleston. Auction items will include a stay and play package from Mardi Gras Casino and Resort, golf packages to Stonewall Resort, West Virginia University football tickets and gift cards to local restaurants. Refreshments and desserts will be served.

Meeting canceled

The Kanawha County Parks and Recreation Commission's Finance/Golf Committee has canceled the their meeting scheduled for Thursday.

Alzheimer's workshops

The Alzheimer's Association West Virginia Chapter is offering a series of free community workshops for those newly diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and their care partners beginning at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Alzheimer's office, 1601 2nd Ave. The "Living with Alzheimer's" program is a three-part series: "Understanding the Basics," "Resource Building," and "Dealing with the Changes." The workshop is an opportunity for individuals - regardless of age - who have recently received an Alzheimer's diagnosis to remain active while sharing experiences with others who are living with the early stages of Alzheimer's disease. At the conclusion of the series, participants will have the opportunity to become involved in Early Stage Support Groups and other social activities. Open house

The St. Albans Historical Society will be having an open house from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the museum at 404 Fourth Ave. in St. Albans, adjacent to the C&O Depot.

Connection rally

Celebrate Recovery, a Christian support group for those trying to overcome habits, hurts and hang-ups, will have its State Connection Rally at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday at River Ridge Church, 2090 Greenbrier St., for those interested in learning more about the program or starting a group. A free lunch provided by Rollin' Smoke is included. Registration is required for planning purposes at jdgandee@gmail.com.

KCPL board of directors

The Kanawha County Public Library Board of Directors will meet at 4 p.m. Monday at the Main Library, John V. Ray Room, third floor, 123 Capitol St. For information, call 304-343-4646.

Sorority meeting

Torchbearer Alpha Chapter, Beta Sigma Phi will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the home of Betty Blair. Plans for the WV State Convention will be discussed and Blair will give the program.

Garden club

The Kanawha Estates Garden Club will meet Monday at the home of Mary Jenkins. A covered-dish dinner will be held at 6 p.m. and the business portion will follow the dinner.

Republican executive committee

The Kanawha County Republican Executive Committee will have a luncheon at noon Tuesday at the Charleston Civic Center. Featured speaker will be the Rev. James Wright, President and Co-founder at Wright Way Ministries Inc. The Rev. Wright will speak on "Don't Compromise Your Convictions." The cost is $12 per person, cash or check only.
