A West Virginia University fraternity member has been charged with sexually assaulting a female student at a party.
Sean Douglas Innerst of Morgantown was arraigned Tuesday on a second-degree sexual assault charge. He posted a $50,000 bond.
A criminal complaint says the woman told Morgantown police she met Innerst, 19, on Saturday at a party at the Sigma Phi Epsilon House. She said she was intoxicated and that she went to Innerst's bedroom.
According to the complaint, the woman said Innerst had sex with her without her consent.
Morgantown Police Chief Ed Preston has not responded to the Gazette-Mail's request for more information, but university officials have said there is an ongoing investigation into the incident.
"We are aware of a criminal complaint filed against a student," WVU spokeswoman Becky Lofstead said in a statement.
"The University takes these matters very seriously and will, as always, provide all possible assistance and support to local law enforcement, as well as to assess the matter for further University action."
Lofstead also said the university will offer resources to the victim and that the Office of Greek Life is communicating with the fraternity's national headquarters.
Greek life at WVU has come under fire in recent years after dozens of students were arrested in October for rioting in the wake of the university football team's upset of Baylor University and the death of first-year student Nolan Burch, who suffered a "catastrophic medical emergency" during a pledging ceremony.
In response to those events, Greek activity was suspended in November and students were consulted on how to change the culture of hazing, reckless behavior and excessive drinking on campus. The moratorium was lifted earlier this year.
