Torchbearer sorority
Torchbearer Alpha Chapter, Beta Sigma Phi will meet on Monday in the home of Beverly Morris. Luanna Jones will finalize plans for the November social. Betty Blair, vice president, will be in charge of the meeting, and Morris will give the program.
Veterans Day program
GFWC Woman's Club of Cross Lanes will honor veterans by hosting a program at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Cross Lanes United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 5320 Pioneer Drive, Cross Lanes. A program will be presented by James McCormick, Director; and Billy Wayne Bailey, Deputy Director, of the West Virginia Veterans and Warriors to Agriculture Program. The organization has become involved with a bee-keeping program because of the decline in the bee population. McCormick will talk about pollinator gardens. A small reception will follow the program. Preceptor sorority
Preceptor Alpha chapter of Beta Sigma Phi International Sorority will have its business meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Canaan United Methodist Church. The Board will meet at 6:45 p.m. President Diane Domaschko will conduct the business meeting. Connie Meeker will give a program. Refreshments served after the business meeting. Service is tabs for Ronald McDonald house, magazines/activity books for the VA hospital/clinic, and containers for Manna Meal.
Pre-Thanksgiving feast
The Fourth Annual Pre-Thanksgiving Feast to benefit the Sissonville Multipurpose Community Center will be held from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Nov. 7 in the Sissonville Multipurpose Community Center located at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 6823 Sissonville Drive. The menu includes turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, green beans, cranberry sauce, drinks and homemade pie. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 5-10. Children under 4 eat free. A convenient carry-out will be located at Laurel Meadows.
Tutor training
Literacy Volunteers of Kanawha County Inc. will conduct a Tutor Training Workshop from 5 to 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 13 and 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Nov. 14 at Christ United Methodist Church, 1221 Quarrier St. Participants must attend both sessions to become certified literacy tutors.
