Pop-up farmers market

The state Department of Health and Human Resources will host a "pop-up" farmers market from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at Davis Park at Capitol and Lee streets in Charleston. People can buy farm-fresh fruits, vegetables, meat and other products. Farmers will accept cash, credit cards, checks and Electronic Benefit Transfer cards.

Teddy Bear Fair

The 2015 Teddy Bear Fair at Charleston Area Medical Center's Women and Children's Hospital will give children the opportunity to stuff bears and receive health, safety and wellness information. The fair will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Participants also can play games and take part in activities designed to teach them how to live healthy lives.

Halloween alternative

The Greater Huntington Park & Recreation District will offer "The Fantasy Maze," a non-scary alternative to Halloween, at Ritter Park the last week of October. The maze, filled with all favorite storybook and cartoon characters, will be open from 5 to 9 p.m. Oct. 24-31. Children are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes and bring their candy bags to collect treats. There will also be concessions, games and inflatables. Tickets are $5 per person and can be purchased at the event from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. each evening. Parking will be available at inside Ritter Park with the flow of traffic entering on 8th Street, traveling east on the road that goes through the Park, and exiting on 12th Street. Business after hours

Charleston Area Alliance will have its Business After Hours event from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Embassy Suites in Charleston. Enjoy Embassy's Oktoberfest themed food and beverages. The event offers social and networking opportunities in a casual atmosphere. The get-togethers are hosted by the Charleston Area Alliance. Early bird registration rate is $15 for Alliance members and $25 for future members. Early bird registration rates expire 5 p.m. today, when prices increase to $25 for Alliance members and $35 for future members.

Roktoberfest

A "Roktoberfest Rocksober Concert" will take place at 2 p.m. Oct. 25 at St. Albans Roadside Park. The concert is free to the public. Bands appearing will include Partners in Time, Mojo's Root Cellar and The Company Stores.

UC book author luncheon

Eliot Parker, author of "Making Arrangements," will be guest speaker at the University of Charleston Builders Book and Author luncheon at noon on Oct. 28 in the Erma Bird Gallery at UC. A meet and greet session will be held at 11:30 a.m. The public is welcome. Reservation fee for the lunch is $18 and is due by Oct. 23.
