Bruno Groening Circle of Friends will have a lecture series featuring Jutta Graf of Germany, who will speak on the topic of "Healing on the Spiritual Path - Medically Verifiable" at 7 p.m. Wednesdayat the India Center, 800 Green Road, South Charleston. The lecture is part of an international lecture series and is based on the theories of Bruno Groening (1906-1959) who called this power "Heilstrom" or healing force. Wee trick-or-treat
Charleston Town Center will sponsor its annual Wee Trick-or-Treat from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday throughout all three levels of the shopping center. A Halloween Costume Contest will be at 7 p.m. at Macy's Court and is hosted by Electric 102 and cosponsored by BrickStreet Insurance. Charleston Town Center Mall Gift Cards will be given to winners in the following costume characters: Ages up to 3 - Best Baby; Ages 3-7 - Best Super Hero, Best Fairy or Princess, Most Original, Most Unusual; Ages 8-13 - Best Book, TV or Movie Character, Best Musical Performer, Most Original; Families - Best Family Theme (must include children and at least one parent or grandparent. Registration for the annual Halloween Costume Contest begins at 5 p.m. in Macy's Court.
Archives and History lecture
Mary Johnson will present "When Sadie Hawkins Went to College" at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Archives and History Library at the Culture Center, State Capitol Complex. There is no charge. Johnson is a historian at the Archives and History and has written articles for "West Virginia History" and "The West Virginia Encyclopedia." There is no charge. Al Capp's popular comic strip, "Li'l Abner," introduced Sadie Hawkins Day in November 1937. Johnson will discuss how Morris Harvey College, now the University of Charleston, was one of the first colleges in the country to have a Sadie Hawkins Day. Because of ongoing construction in the visitors' parking area, participants may park behind the Culture Center after 5 p.m. Thursday and enter the building at the back loading dock area.
