Pulitzer Prize-winning author and historian Eric Foner presents "Civil War to Civil Rights: The Politics of History" for the 2015 McCreight Lecture in the Humanities at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Geary Auditorium, Riggleman Hall, University of Charleston. The West Virginia Humanities Council program is free and open to the public. A reception and book signing will follow the lecture.
Foner, the DeWitt Clinton Professor of History at Columbia University, is one of the most prominent historians in the country. He is a two-time winner of the Bancroft Prize and his book, "The Fiery Trial: Abraham Lincoln and American Slavery," received the Pulitzer Prize. His latest book, "Gateway to Freedom: The Hidden History of the Underground Railroad," was published early in 2015.
