The Red Carpet's beloved mascot, Cali the cat, is missing.

Cali, the well-known feline who lives at the Red Carpet Lounge on the East End of Charleston, was last seen leaving the Red Carpet back patio Tuesday at about 2 p.m., said Red Carpet owner Mike Duda.

Cali is about 8 years old and has lived at the Red Carpet for approximately five and a half years.

Over that time, everyone from state legislators to East End regulars have grown attached to her.

"She's like part of the family," Duda said.

About three years ago, the health department complained about Cali being inside when food was being prepared, so staff started sending her upstairs during lunch.

Many customers complained, but the bar owner said he understood.

"She got used to it and everyone else got used to that," Duda said.

Cali has a heated house during the winter and a bed upstairs. She's "quite pampered," Duda said.

Red Carpet customers have been asking about Cali every day.

"They're worried," Duda said.

If you see Cali, call the Red Carpet at 304-342-9977.
