U.S. Rep. Alex Mooney has announced the House of Representatives' Wounded Warrior Program will accept applications for open positions in congressional offices across the country, including Mooney's Charleston office.

"My father served in Vietnam as a captain in the Army where he received the Bronze Star. He was lucky enough to have returned home healthy and safe, but that is not the case for every veteran who sacrifices for our nation," Mooney, R-W.Va., said in a press release. "The Wounded Warrior Program plays an integral role in opening doors for our veterans who wish to continue their public service. I look forward to the potential of adding another veteran to my dedicated staff."

A caseworker position is available in Mooney's Charleston office, according to the release. That person would be responsible for facilitating and coordinating responses to a wide range of requests from constituents. District caseworkers also aid residents in interacting with government and administrative agencies by acting as facilitators and sometimes as advocates.

A list of vacancy announcements can be found online on the Chief Administrative Office of the House of Representative's website under "employment" and "Wounded Warrior Program." Positions are available nationwide.

The Wounded Warrior Program was established to create fellowships that provide employment opportunities within the House for veterans, according to the release. These fellowships allow veterans to gain exposure and experience.

According to the Wounded Warrior Program guidelines, applicants must have served on active duty since Sept. 11, 2001, have a 30 percent or greater service-connected disability rating and less than 20 years of service. In addition to a current resume, applicants must submit a copy of the DD-214 and a Veterans Affairs letter confirming they have at least a 30 percent service-connected disability rating.
