n After a baby was found covered in vomit when Princeton troopers stopped a vehicle for DUI, police gave him a bath in the sink of the detachment's break room, the Bluefield Daily Telegraph reports. The baby has since been placed with a legal guardian. The driver, who was not named, faces a charge of DUI with a minor.
n A Marion County man waited several days to claim his $1 million Powerball prize, MetroNews reported. Teddy Harbert, a Worthington resident, said the ticket was stuck to the side of his console in his vehicle.
n Regional Education Laboratory Appalachia, a program administered by the U.S. Department of Education, found that 32 percent of first-time teachers in West Virginia leave the profession within four years, West Virginia Public Broadcasting reports. West Virginia pays its teachers one of the lowest salary rates in the nation.
n After a meeting of the National City-County Task Force on the Opioid Epidemic, Huntington Mayor Steve Williams told The Herald-Dispatch the city had already implemented most of the proposed suggestions, but still lacked in one area - treatment facilities.
"One instance we ran into in April, we had a woman who reached out to use on a Friday evening," he said. "She texted asking for help for her son, wanting to get him into a treatment program. Then on Sunday morning, we got a text saying never mind. He had died. It just makes you feel so lost."
n Lisa Farbstein, a spokeswoman for the Transportation Security Administration, told the Dominion Post that people are more frequently bringing prohibited items to airport security checkpoints. TSA displayed a variety of items people have attempted to board with, included a loaded gun, a barbecue pitchfork, a gardening tool and numerous knives, at the Morgantown Municipal Airport Tuesday. Earlier this month, TSA said seven guns had been found on people attempting to board planes at Yeager Airport this year.
