For 10 days every year people from all over the state descend upon Fairlea, near Lewisburg, to attend the State Fair of West Virginia. From zippy carnival rides, active livestock shows and free live entertainment there is something for all ages.
West Virginia’s youngest farmers come out to show off their best animals in the hopes of winning a giant first place ribbon to hang on their animal stalls and eventually their home walls. Curious crowds make rounds through the poultry building, to see small yellow ducks sliding and swimming, or walk around the West Virginia building where artwork and well-grown veggies are on display. Those who are feeling a little risky can place bets on horse races at the Grandstands before musicians take over the stage in the evening.
Take some time to see for yourself, if you haven’t already. The 92nd annual fair will continue to run through Sunday.
