Columbia Pipeline Group will hold a public hearing Tuesday evening to let Putnam County residents discuss a planned 165-mile pipeline that will run through the county.

The meeting is scheduled for Oct. 6 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Winfield Community Center, where residents will be able to hear more about the $2 billion project that would transport gas from the Marshall to Cabell County.

Columbia Pipeline Group has filed an preliminary application to build that pipeline with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission in the hope the pipeline will carry roughly 2.7 billion cubic feet of gas per day from the Marcellus region to markets in the south.

The direct route of the 36-inch pipeline is planned to run through Putnam County and 13 other West Virginia counties. Other meetings have been held or are planned in Proctor, Jacksonburg, West Union, Smithville and Ripley.
