n Martinsburg City Council banned the discharge of fireworks within city limits on Thursday evening, The Journal reports. The city received numerous complaints about late-night fireworks after the state Legislature legalized more dangerous fireworks in West Virginia.
n Martinsburg City Council is also considering banning panhandling. MetroNews reports that several council members said panhandling has increased in recent years.
n Richard Edwards, Buckhannon's city recorder and a former acting mayor, will resign to avoid being indicted on a criminal charge, MetroNews reports. Mayor David McCauley said Edwards will have to pay for $592 worth of fuel that he used, and must resign by Aug. 31.
