The next Open Stage and Coffee House, with host Ron Sowell, will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Unity of Kanawha Valley, 804 Myrtle Road. All local musicians are welcome to come and share their talents in a friendly and enthusiastic atmosphere. The performers sign up at 7 p.m. General admission is $5. Admission for performers, seniors and children is $2. Various coffees, teas, soft drinks and delicious homemade treats are available at a small cost.
The Flying Hillbillies and The Ona Radio Control Flying clubs will be hosting a Radio Controlled Air Show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday at the Flying Hillbillies Club, located along the Kanawha River on W.Va. 817 (old Route 35), between the John Amos power plant and Winfield. The show will include in-flight demonstrations of all types of radio controlled aircraft including giant scale airplanes, helicopters and drones. Admission is free with donations benefiting the Boy Scouts of America Troop 17 of Putnam County. There will be also be food and beverages sold by the Boy Scouts. The Citizens' Climate Lobby of Charleston will meet at noon Saturday at the WVSU Economic Development Center, 1516 Kanawha Blvd. West. Lunch is potluck. The group will activate their plans to secure endorsements/support from our local leaders and community organizations in the transition to green energy. The August national call guest speaker at 1 p.m. is Rikkia Ramsey, policy program coordinator for the Truman Center.
