There will be a West Side community reunion cookout at the Second Avenue Community Center in Charleston today, beginning at 11 a.m. For information, call Deanie Miller at 304-993-8806.

A Neighborhood Watch Meeting for residents of Ward 2 in St. Albans will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church, corner of Kanawha Terrace and Pennsylvania Avenue. The Rubberifics will host an activity titled "New Products and Techniques" from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 16 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 839 Chestnut St., South Charleston. Rhonda Sarcone will share new products and techniques from the Stampaway Convention she attended in Sharonville, Ohio. The Rubberifics Rubber Stamp Club meets the third Tuesday of the month. Moul Photography and Putnam County Parks and Recreation Commission is hosting a Beginner's Photography Class from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 30 and Sept. 13 and 27 at 561 Sunny Brook Road in Hurricane. Jennifer Gardy will be featured in the Chancellor's STEM Speaker Series held at 7 p.m. Sept. 8 at the state Culture Center. The talk is titled "Bugs, Bones and Botany: the Science of Crime." Tickets to the event are free, but must be obtained in advance through www.wvresearch.org. Gardy is a senior scientist at the British Columbia Centre for Disease Control and an occasional guest host for "Nature of Things," a documentary series on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. She is also the author of a children's book: "It's Catching: The Infectious World of Germs and Microbes."
