A former Charleston police officer, who resigned after allegedly making racially insensitive videos, was charged this week with violating a domestic violence protective order.

Shawn Williams, of Belle, is accused of going to his ex-wife's house on Sunday, despite a court order barring him from being around her and their two children, according to a criminal complaint filed in Kanawha County Magistrate Court.

Williams is charged with three counts of violating the order, which isn't set to expire until Oct. 10, the complaint states. He turned himself into State Police in Cabell County on Monday, after Kanawha Magistrate Tim Halloran issued a warrant for his arrest.

According to the complaint, Williams' ex-wife told police that when she went to let her dog outside, she saw a silver Chrysler, which she believed belongs to her ex-husband, in the alley behind her house.

She then got her dog in the house and got in her car, according to the complaint. She alleges that as she pulled out of her driveway, Williams started to come toward her, but then turned around and drove down the alley, in the same direction she was headed on Washington Avenue.

They drove this way for several blocks before Williams' ex-wife decided to turn around and go back home, the complaint states. When she pulled out onto MacCorkle Avenue to turn around, according to police, Williams pulled out in front of her. She was able to take a photograph of the vehicle and confirm it was her ex-husband inside the car registered in his name, according to the complaint.

Williams, who was a Charleston police officer for about 16 years, was placed on administrative leave by the city's police department in September 2014 after a laptop was found with videos that allegedly showed Williams' daughter dressed in portions of a police uniform while dancing to a song of the Ku Klux Klan. He resigned in January 2015; at the time, sources said Chief Brent Webster had recommended that Williams be fired.
