Aldersgate United Methodist Women will have a rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 6 at the church, 6823 Sissonville Drive.

The Unitarian Universalist Congregation at 520 Kanawha Blvd. has a discussion group that meets for one hour at 9:30 a.m. every Sunday. It is an open forum, inviting all to participate. Paul Dalzell, and possibly other members, will talk about the UUC Clean Water Fund Task Force; a group formed in 2014 to disperse monies donated to UUC to help after the chemical spill. Now revived, the church is helping with flood relief efforts.

Twice Blessed ministry of Christ Church United Methodist, 1221 Quarrier St., will have its fall sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 20. The ministry's mission is to be an outreach to the community by providing quality children's items at affordable prices, assist families in selling their gently used items, and to generate funds that support local children's charities and children's areas of the church. Registration is $7, and consignors keep 70 percent of sales. The remaining 30-percent is given to local children's charities and the church. Consignors are not required to work the sale, and volunteers do not have to consign. Those who volunteer a three-hour shift may shop the exclusive volunteer only pre-sale on Aug. 19. The sale features gently used, but great quality, fall and winter children's clothing (newborn to junior's sizes), pajamas, Halloween costumes, shoes, maternity wear, toys, bikes, books, baby equipment, children's furniture and more. Silas Gospel Tabernacle will sponsor a food box program ministry that provides families with a 50-percent decrease on their grocery bills. There are no income guidelines. The church's goal is to reach families who want to save money, need food assistance, seniors who need to make mealtime easy and other nonprofit groups who would like to become a smart choice food site. Teays Valley Church of God in Scott Depot will host a night of worship, games, snacks and Bible teaching designed for families with preschool and elementary children from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. today at the church. This is an opportunity for young parents to see what goes on in the exciting Revved Up Kidz ministry. Cross Lanes United Methodist Church is hosting its fifth Back to School Bash from 5 to 8 p.m. Aug. 13. The event includes live music, free ice cream, hot dogs and hamburgers, free backpacks and school supplies, jump house, free health screenings, games, and more.

Members of the Teays Valley Church of God in Scott Depot are throwing Teays Valley free carnival from 4 to 7 p.m. Aug. 13 at the Kmart in Teays Valley. The carnival will include free food, inflatables, face painting, music, giveaways and more.

North Hills Church, 6108 Hills Lane, Sissonville, will accept donations of school supplies for Kanawha County children impacted by the recent flooding between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and from 5 to 7 p.m. today. Items needed include backpacks, pencils, crayons, pens, notebook paper, binders, scissors, rulers, hand sanitizer, etc. Items will be distributed to area schools. Approximately 2,000 students were affected from four schools. For those who want to donate but are unable to come to Sissonville or have questions, contact Candice Slate at 304-984-1444. Glad Tidings Assembly of God, 121 Mill Road, Hurricane, will participate in the Hurricane city-wide yard sale from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 13. There will be hot dogs and homemade barbecue available for purchase. For more information, call the church office at 304-562-3074.

Liberty Missionary Baptist Church, 2469 Yates Crossing, Ona, will have its annual outdoor concert from 5 p.m. to dark Aug. 20 at the church. Featured singers include The Harvesters from Sanford, North Carolina, and The Humphreys from Ripley. There is no admission charge. Bring a lawn chair and friend. The 66th Annual West Virginia Mountain State Gospel Singers Convention will be held today and Sunday at the convention grounds, located off of W.Va. 19, 5 miles south of Summersville, Nicholas County. All singers are welcome. There is free camping during the convention, but donations will be accepted. The schedule is: 1:45 to 6:45 p.m. today, open mic; 7 p.m. today, quartets and trios; 11 a.m. Sunday, morning worship; and noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, open mic. An old-fashioned Tabernacle Camp Meeting will be held Sunday through Aug. 7 at the Shenandoah District Family Campground, 2200 Charley's Creek Road, Culloden. James Keaton will be the evangelist. An old-fashioned tent revival will be held Sunday through Aug. 6 at Lone Oak Church, W.Va. 34, Red House. Josh Scarberry will preach nightly.
