Crews in Mingo County continued Thursday afternoon to search for a man believed to have drowned in the Tug Fork River.
A Mingo County dispatcher said a drowning was reported Wednesday evening in the Beech Creek area. He said divers were on their way Thursday morning.
He said firefighters from Kermit, Beech Creek, Gilbert and Logan responded.
Doug Goolsby, interim director of Mingo County Homeland Security and Emergency Management, said two people said they witnessed the man, who was believed to be in his 40s, attempt to swim across the river, go under the water and never resurface on Wednesday.
Authorities have not released the man's name.
