In Around West Virginia, Charles Town adopts a LGBT nondiscrimination ordinance, 10 interns join Theatre West Virginia, a Logan County man allegedly steals from the woman he works for, and more.

n Ten interns from around the country have joined Theatre West Virginia for the summer, according to the Beckley Register-Herald. The performers are part of Theatre West Virginia's Professional Training Program for Musical Theatre Interns. They started June 10.

"They're so hungry," said Jason Adkins, co-director of the intern program, told the newspaper. "That's how we cast them - not just on talent alone. We look at more than their qualifications, we look at their personalities."

The performers will be part of the theater's summer productions this year: "The Addams Family Musical," "Hatfields and McCoys" and "Ring of Fire: The Johnny Cash Musical."

n Police say a Fairmont woman charged with child neglect in connection with a deadly shooting was high on marijuana when two teenagers in her care were playing with a gun that fired, killing one of them. The Times-West Virginian reports that Amy Lynn Jones, 39, of Fairmont, was is charged with a felony offense of child neglect resulting in death.

According to a criminal complaint, Jones was high while she was in custody of five teenagers on the night of June 12. The complaint said two of the teenagers were playing with a handgun when it accidentally fired while a 16-year-old boy was holding it. It struck 16-year-old Printess Winston, who later died of the wound.

n Charles Town on Tuesday night adopted nondiscrimination protections for LGBT residents. The Journal-News reports the council voted in the ordinance with a 5-2 vote. The ordinance provides protection against discrimination in employment, housing, and public accommodations, according to Fairness West Virginia, a LGBT rights advocacy group. Fairness West Virginia says Charles Town is the 10th municipality in the state to adopt such an ordinance.

n A Logan County man is charged with stealing $17,000 worth of good from a woman he worked for. The Logan Banner reports that Mark Aaron Vincent, of Lake, allegedly stole from the woman who hired him to help her clean and move to another residence. Vincent reportedly worked for the victim between January and May this year. He is charged with a felony count of grand larceny.
