The Green Valley Church of God Youth is sponsoring a showing of the movie, "Courageous," in honor of Father's Day at 6 p.m. June 26 at the church located at 518 Green Valley Drive, St. Albans. St. Christopher Episcopal Church will have its annual Fish Fry fundraiser from noon to 4 p.m. today at the church, 821 Edgewood Drive. Cross Lanes United Methodist Church invites all women of the community to a "Call to Prayer and Self-Denial" potluck luncheon on June 28 at the church, 5320 Frontier Drive, Cross Lanes. Social time will begin at 11:30 a.m. The program begins at 11:45 a.m., includes lunch and concludes by 1 p.m. Child care will be provided. The theme is "Women at Work: Economic Justice and Empowerment," and the offering will support programs that empower women. The Unitarian Universalist Congregation at 520 Kanawha Boulevard has a discussion group that meets for one hour at 9:30 a.m. every Sunday. It is an open forum, inviting all to participate. Have you read the novel "Amazon Moon?" It was the result of the creativity of one of our own members. The Amazon women ran their world, keeping the men well under control. The author will discuss the book and what it says about women's needs and rights.

Leatherwood Missionary Baptist Church's 32nd Annual Outdoor Gospel Sing will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the church. The Primitive Quartet of Candler, North Carolina; Troy Burns Family of Bryson City, North Carolina; and Mike Upright of Penrose, North Carolina, will sing. Calvary Baptist Church in Charleston will present a Freedom Celebration as part of FestivALL from 2 to 3 p.m. June 25 at the church. Singers from numerous churches and organizations will combine to present a patriotic concert with orchestra. Barry Skeenes, director, will conduct various musical pieces commemorating the country's independence. The program will be approximately one hour long. There also will be a reading of the Declaration of Independence. The concert is free and tickets are not required. Calvary Baptist Church is located just off the westbound Interstate 64 exit for Washington Street West and the Lee Street exit of eastbound Interstate 64, on Charleston's West Side at the corner of Lee Street and Maryland Avenue directly behind Kroger.
Fisher Memorial Church will have a gospel sing at 7 p.m. on June 25 at the church. The Humphreys, Freeman Newhouse, Lathey Family and the church choir will sing. The Religious Coalition for Community Renewal (RCCR) is sponsoring the Fifth Annual Gospel Fest at 7 p.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church, 16 Leon Sullivan Way. The annual Gospel Fest, which is part of Charleston's 2016 FestivALL, is titled "The Story Behind the Song" and features three forms of gospel music. Performances are by contemporary gospel singer Candice Anderson; singer and performer Ethel Caffie-Austin with black gospel; and singer and performer Rose Fisher with Southern gospel. Gospel Fest began as a way of providing the Charleston community with awareness of the workings, needs and positive results of the Samaritan Inn, which is transitional residential housing with supportive services for up to nine homeless men at a time. It is located in downtown Charleston and was founded by RCCR in 1989. Any and all donations from this event are appreciated. Proceeds go to help maintain the Samaritan Inn. A Southern Gospel Outdoor Concert 2016 will be held at 5:30 p.m. July 23 on the Rebecca Chapel parking lot, 147 Moran Ave., off of Roxalana Road.
