Roads were flooded and closed on the East End of Charleston this morning due to a water main break.

Washington Street between Brooks Street and Morris Street, in front of CAMC General Hospital, remains closed while West Virginia American Water crews work on repairs.

The break was reported at about 4:45 a.m. As of about 8 a.m., the water had significantly receded but Rite Aid parking lot was still flooded.

CAMC employees said several streets were flooded earlier in the morning.

Megan Hannah, spokeswoman for West Virginia American Water, said the company expects repairs to be complete by late afternoon or early evening. Washington Street will be reopened sometime after that, after paving is finished. She said the break occurred on Washington Street between Brooks Street and Morris Street.

She said at about 8 a.m. that crews had been able to valve off the leak.

Fewer than five customers were affected, according to Hannah.
