The Charleston Ballet will sponsor a Family Funbash from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Hamrick family home, 401 Fort Hill Drive. Kids will enjoy activity stations like the green screen, tattoo tent, edible art and face painting. There will be food, drinks, music and dancing. Park at the bottom of Fort Hill Drive and ride private transportation to the site. The event kicks off the upcoming 2016-17 season of the Charleston Ballet. Advance tickets are available at the Charleston Ballet office for $20 per person and $50 for a family with children. There will be a 5K "run, walk and roll" Saturday at Kanawha State Forest in memory of Coach Tom Hopper who played, refereed and coached soccer for many years in the Kanawha Valley. All proceeds benefit the Kanawha-Charleston Soccer Foundation. Check-in/registration starts at 7 a.m. and the event starts at 9 a.m. in the swimming pool parking lot/Pavilion 9. Putnam County Parks and Recreation will host a free Kids' Fishing Derby from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at Valley Park's large shelter. Children ages 2-12 are eligible to participate. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.
Marshall Family Medicine's Health Education Resource Office will host its inaugural HERO Fest, a health and wellness event for the entire family, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Ritter Park, Huntington. The fest will offer bounce houses, a dunk tank, games and giveaways. A free, healthy family-style picnic be provided. Preceptor Alpha chapter of Beta Sigma Phi International Sorority will meet at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday at Angela's On The River, at 2 6th Ave., St. Albans. This will be the last meeting of this year. President Diane Domaschko will conduct the meeting. Members and their guests are welcome to attend.
