After six straight days of temperatures above 90 degrees and similar days expected, the Charleston area is in the midst of its longest heat wave of the summer, meteorologists say. Sunday marked the sixth day of temperatures higher than 90 degrees, said Michael Charnick, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Charleston.

"[Monday] we're forecasting our high to be around 90 again, so there's a chance we could make that seven in a row," Charnick said. Tuesday's temperatures are also expected to be in the 90s, he said.

"These high temperatures are above average," he said. "Our normal high in Charleston for this time of year is 81 and we're ... losing a degree off of that every week or two."

By Wednesday, temperatures are expected to drop to the mid-80s as clouds and moisture move in, Charnick said. Thursday's high is expected to be in the low 80s and the temperature will be in the high 70s by the weekend, he said.

Besides this heat wave, the second-longest recent heat wave happened in May, when there were five days of temperatures above 90, Charnick said.
