BridgeValley Community and Technical College's Board of Governors voted Monday to select Eunice Bellinger as the school's next president.
BridgeValley spokesman Brian Bolyard said the school's presidential search committee - which includes representatives from the Board of Governors, Foundation Board, employees and students - recommended Bellinger, and Board of Governors members voted unanimously to offer her a contract. Gregory Barker, David Lewia and Don Stewart were the only board members not in attendance.
Upon required further approval of her contract by the West Virginia Community and Technical College System's board, Bellinger will begin serving July 6. Bolyard said he couldn't discuss the details of the contract she's been offered, including her salary.
According to BridgeValley, Eunice Bellinger has nearly 23 years of teaching experience and has held upper-level administrative positions at the State University of New York's Niagara County Community College, SUNY's Genesee Community College, Massachusetts Bay Community College, SUNY's Empire State College and at the United Arab Emirates' Abu Dhabi University. It was unclear late Monday where she currently works or whether she's currently unemployed.
Bolyard previously said there were 40 total applicants for the position, 19 of whom were deemed qualified.
Jo Harris, who has been BridgeValley's president for a dozen years and helped oversee the merging of Bridgemont and Kanawha Valley community and technical colleges to form the institution, announced in late January that she planned to resign in July. She previously was Bridgemont's president.
BridgeValley serves Kanawha, Clay, Fayette, Nicholas, Putnam and Raleigh counties. It has campuses in South Charleston and Montgomery, along with the Advanced Technology Center in South Charleston.
