It won't cost you any money to attend The Greenbrier Classic golf tournament this year, but you will have to register for tickets in advance.

The Greenbrier Classic will be the only event on the PGA Tour to offer free access for the entire week of events, The Greenbrier said.

Tickets are limited to 32,000 per day of the event, which runs July 4-10, with the tournament itself beginning on July 7.

Fans will be asked to register for tournament badges online through www.Green brierClassic.com and to bring a non-perishable food item to the event, which will be donated to local food pantries. Tickets can be picked up at will call.

"Please go online to reserve your tickets as soon as possible," the resort said in a news release.

Tickets will also give fans access to The Greenbrier, its restaurants and its casino.

Also available, though not for free, are Springhouse and Snead Champions Club badges, which offer fans various luxury options, including access to air conditioned facilities and food and drink options.

The Greenbrier announced on Monday that the tournament would be free, but that the accompanying Greenbrier Concert Series would be canceled this year.

Greenbrier owner Jim Justice also announced that he was asking the Legislature to cancel the state's sponsorship of the event, as the state tries to deal with an ongoing budget crisis.

Justice, West Virginia's richest man, is the Democratic candidate for governor.

"People are hurting, and we wanted to do something to help," Justice said. "West Virginians have always been original and come up with novel ideas, and this is our contribution to the game of golf. We're so excited to be able to be the first to offer an opportunity like this."

Any fans who have already purchased badges to the tournament can choose to upgrade to Springhouse badges for no further cost or to have their money refunded, The Greenbrier said.

The resort said this year's tournament will be dedicated to young golfers and instruction, and "junior fan experiences" will be available throughout the week.
