The West Virginia Division of Energy and the Center for Business and Economic Research at Marshall University, have partnered to host the "Renewable Energy in West Virginia: Projects and Prospects in 2016" conference Thursday in the Brad D. Smith Foundation Hall in Huntington. The conference will bring together organizations and individuals with experience implementing and managing renewable energy projects in the state. The East Bank High School Alumni Association will have a breakfast meeting at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Chelyan Methodist Church. A business meeting will follow at 11 a.m.

Citizen's Climate Lobby of Charleston will have a meeting and potluck at noon Saturday at WVSU's Economic Development Center, 1506 Kanawha Blvd. A discussion will be held on the group's local activities and efforts. Ben Franklin Career Center will host informational open houses at two locations. The first will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Cross Lanes Public Library. The second will be from 3 to 5 p.m. May 21 at the Dunbar Public Library. Interested adults can learn about the classes offered that can lead to industry certifications in Medical Scribe, Medical Office Assistant, Welding, Heavy Equipment Operation and Maintenance, HVAC Technician, and Electrical Technician. Kanawha Trail Club will sponsor a hike at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday at Eleanor City Park (formerly Putnam County Park). Carpool from the parking lot at the corner of Ohio Avenue and Randolph Street, across from the post office. The hike is 3 to 4 miles on moderate trails.

Union Mission will be honoring six outstanding women from our community at a luncheon from noon to 1:30 p.m. May 19 at the Charleston Marriott. Luncheon tickets are $45 each.
