The West Virginia Secretary of State's office has received several reports of campaigners promoting candidates within 300 feet of polling places - in violation of state law - in the early hours of voting in Tuesday's primary election.

Precincts in Kanawha, Monongalia, Berkeley and Jefferson counties have reported issues with campaign supporters who were too close to the polls, according to Briana Wilson, communications director for the Secretary of State's office.

"We have heard about campaign supporters, both at the local and federal level, and those supporters have had hats, T-shirts, promotional materials or signs within 300 feet of the polling place, and that is not allowed," Wilson said. "The poll workers have been doing a really good job of asking them to step outside of that 300-foot zone."

Wilson said there have been specific reports of Donald Trump supporters promoting a slate of delegates for the Republican National Convention who had violated the rule. She did not specify which county that happened in, but said they had complied with the law when asked to move.
