For the past six years, Charleston attorney Rusty Webb's largest marketing tool has been a billboard on Interstate 77 near Beckley.
That changed earlier this year, though, when Webb unveiled his mobile law office.
"Call me. I'll bring justice to you," reads the side of the black Mercedes Winnebago RV.
A large black-and-white photograph of a smiling Webb marks the sides of the vehicle, along with the firm's website and phone number.
"The last time I had a hearing in Lewisburg, I parked it on [U.S.] 219, on the main drag, and walked to the courthouse, so it was basically a billboard while I was in court," Webb said, standing outside his Lee Street office on Friday.
With his new ride, Webb can advertise anywhere he goes. Because of that, he plans to attend ball games, festivals and other events where there are crowds and he can park his RV.
"I've always taken pride in marketing and I wanted to do something different," said Webb, who has been an attorney almost 30 years. "I'm competing with a lot of personal injury attorneys who advertise a lot on TV."
He thinks the mobile office might be his best idea yet. He said he plans to replace the current billboard on I-77 with a photograph of the RV.
Webb credits his wife, Robin, with designing the outside of the RV. It was wrapped by Balance Clothing on the West Side, which also does Charleston's police cruisers and fire trucks, Webb said. The RV is wrapped in stickers so that its appearance can be changed at any time.
The inside of the mobile office includes leather seating, a computer, scanner and fax and copy machines. It's fully equipped with a refrigerator, stove, shower and toilet.
The 24-foot-long RV gets surprisingly great gas mileage, Webb said. It uses diesel fuel.
Webb will use the space to travel and meet with clients. He can do so comfortably, he said.
Plus, according to Webb, sometimes clients don't want to invite people inside their homes or meet at a restaurant or anywhere in public.
Recently, when two girls wanted their photo taken with him and the RV, it wasn't just because they thought the RV was cool, Webb admitted Friday, laughing.
They had recognized him from the times he has appeared on MTV's reality show "Teen Mom II." One of the mothers the show follows is from the Charleston area and Webb represents two men who are the fathers of her children.
"I tried to put, 'As seen on MTV' right here," Webb said, pointing at the back of the RV, near the license plate.
His wife said no way, Webb said.
