CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Officials are planning to unveil a new mode of public transportation in downtown Charleston.

Tourism officials say they hope to hold a news conference this week. In attendance will be the chief executive officer of Pittsburgh-based Autopods, which operates a fleet of small cabs. They are powered by foot pedals with electric batteries for use on hills.

According to Autopods' website, the service charges a flat fare for the general public and can be booked for special events such as weddings and festivals. The vehicles are intended for short trips.

A news conference that was set for Thursday at Haddad Riverfront Park was postponed due to other events involving presidential politics in the city. Charleston Convention and Visitors Bureau spokeswoman Jama Jarrett says officials are working to reschedule the announcement.
