Hike of the month
The Greater Huntington Park & Recreation District will host its May Hike of the Month at Ritter Park on Saturday. Meet at the Ritter Park Tennis Center at noon for the 2-mile hike. For information, contact Stacey Leep at 304-696-5954 or sleep@ghprd.org.
Kick addiction event
The Putnam County Adult Drug Court and Recovery Point will host "Kick Addiction and Run Toward Recovery" from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at Valley Park in Hurricane. The event features a kickball tournament, a raffle and lunch. The Putnam County Sheriff's Department will offer child fingerprinting and a take home identification kit as well as a drug take back event. Community members are encouraged to bring medications that they are no longer using to the drug take-back event. Team registration for the kickball tournament is $40, although teams can register online through Recovery Point's website prior to the event for a $5 discount. Proceeds benefit the Putnam County Adult Drug Court and Recovery Point, which provides peer support, life skills training and housing to people seeking recovery.
Parking lot sale
Putnam County Parks and Recreation will sponsor a Spring Parking Lot Sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Valley (Wave Pool) Park. There are no refunds and no rain date. Spaces are available for rental for $15. For table rentals and information, call 304-562-0518, ext. 101.
Painting class
Kanawha City Community Center will offer painting classes for youth and adults from beginner to expert at 10 a.m. on the first Saturday of each month. There will be different painting for each class. Supplies will be provided. The cost is $10 per person. Contact Justin Ross at 304-348-6484.
Cheat River Festival
Cheat River Festival 2016 will be held 11:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. on Saturday on the Festival Grounds in Albright. There will be vendors, live music, art market and more. Tickets are $20 at the gate. Kids ages under 12 are admitted free. All proceeds benefit Friends of the Cheat. For information, visit cheatfest@cheat.org.
Child safety event
Operation Kidsafe Free Child Safety events will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Burdette Camping Centers located at Winfield and Hurricane. Operation Kidsafe is free and private for families. Parents take home the only record of the visit - a Bio Document - that is ready to hand to law enforcement in an emergency. Safety tips to start a family safety action plan are also included. Alumni association
The Greenbrier West Alumni Association Inc., in conjunction with Together Jobs, will sponsor a Coal Heritage Pride Festival from noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday at the Meadow River Road Side Park, U.S. 60, between Rainelle and Charmco. The menu includes ramps, brown beans, pulled pork, hot dogs and all the fixings. The cost is $15 for adults and $6 for children.
