Camp fund preparing for 20th year

In the coming days, Gazette-Mail Charities will kick off the 20th Send-A-Child-to-Camp Fund.

Throughout its existence, the fund, with the assistance of newspaper readers, has helped to send more than 10,000 kids to summer camp.

These are kids who might not have otherwise had a chance for a summer-camp experience because of financial constraints.

Starting soon, the Gazette-Mail will tell the stories of the camps being supported this year by Gazette-Mail Charities. Readers will learn about the camps' mission and read tales of past campers' experiences.

Provided with that information, we hope readers see the value of a summer-camp experience and realize the need that exists in our community.

Previously operated by Gazette Charities, this is the first camp fund to fall under the umbrella of Gazette-Mail Charities, which began with the combination of the Charleston Gazette and Charleston Daily Mail in July.
