CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Several children will have an opportunity to attend the circus for free after a retired Charleston man used money left over from his Social Security check to pay for their tickets.
WSAZ-TV reports Larry Cochran had $1,000 left from his check after paying his bills, and decided to put the money toward circus tickets for children who may have trouble attending otherwise.
Charleston police coordinated Cochran's donation with the Civic Center and Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey officials. His contribution will provide enough tickets for at least 25 families to attend the event Saturday.
Administrators at Mary C. Snow West Side Elementary School passed out tickets to parents Thursday.
Cochran says he plans on taking his own family to the event.
The circus' Charleston stop lasts through Sunday.
