Donald Trump is coming to West Virginia in the next few weeks, his state campaign chairman said, although he would not say when or where.

The billionaire businessman leading the Republican presidential primary race will be in the Mountain State before the May 10 primary, said Mike Stuart, Trump's campaign chairman and a former state Republican Party chairman.

Trump's campaign said in January that the candidate looks forward to visiting West Virginia soon.

"We're just not prepared to announce the dates or the times, but we're working on a very vigorous plan and he will be coming to West Virginia," Stuart said Wednesday. "They're very committed to winning West Virginia, not only the popular vote, which they feel very good about, but also the delegate vote."

Stuart called the West Virginia Republican Party's confusing delegate allocation system "probably as broken as anywhere else."

The popular presidential vote in West Virginia has no official say in how delegates are allocated, that comes from voting for individual delegates. There are 220 people running for 22 at-large spots to the Republican National Convention.

Trump can win a maximum of 31 out of the state's 34 delegates, while opponents Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, can win up to 30 and Ohio Gov. John Kasich can win a maximum of just 14.
