CHESTERFIELD, Va. (AP) - A circus train crashed into a car at a railroad crossing in Chesterfield.

Local news outlets report that the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey circus train struck the car Tuesday morning.

Police say the train dragged the car about a half mile down the tracks before it came to a stop. The driver of the vehicle was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police also say that the train was carrying numerous animals. The animals and the people on board the train were not injured.

Authorities are now investigating to determine why the man's car was on the train tracks.

The train was en route to Worcester, Massachusetts, from Charleston, South Carolina, Feld Entertainment spokesman Stephen Payne said Tuesday.

Another train carrying a separate unit of human and animal performers is still expected to arrive in Charleston, West Virginia, early this week for nine scheduled performances at the Civic Center.
