A Charleston man was sentenced Monday to spend two years in federal prison for a gun crime.
Richard Howard King II, 21, pleaded guilty in January to possession of a firearm by an unlawful user of a controlled substance, according to a news release from Acting U.S. Attorney Carol Casto's office.
King admitted that on July 16, 2015, he was carrying a concealed handgun when he was approached by Charleston police officers. After informing the officers that he was armed, police removed the pistol from his waistband, the release states.
King also admitted he possessed four other firearms between July 5,2013 and July 16, 2015, one of which was stolen.
At the time he had the guns, he was a habitual user of marijuana, according to the release.
U.S. District Judge Thomas Johnston handed down the sentence.
