CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - West Virginia will be included in the National Maple Survey for the first time this spring.
The survey is conducted by the National Agricultural Statistics Service. Producers will be contacted from late April through mid-May.
The West Virginia Agriculture Department says more than two dozen producers in the state make maple syrup, maple candy, maple sugar and other items.
The survey asks questions about the number of taps, amount of syrup produced, sap flow temperature, syrup color, sales and length of sap collection.
State statistician Charmaine Wilson of the West Virginia field office said in a news release from the state Agriculture Department that being part of the national study helps the agriculture community, business leaders and data users.
